A division cannot have only one participant in it. In order to be eligible for prizes a division has to have at least 2 participants and according to race rules divisions can be combined to form one competitive division. This was the case with the Solo Women's and 3-person team divisions which was combined with the 4-person team to create the Ad Hoc Division.
AD HOC DIVISION (Solo Female, 3 Person team, 4 Person team)
1 Racheal Pierce 3:46:09 ($300 Scheels gft card)
2 GUARDIANS OF CELESTE 3:57:45 (3 $65 Scheels gft cards)
3 TEAM AWESOMESAUCE 4:01:06 (4 $25 Scheels gft cards)
I don't believe in participant trophies. In my opinion, trophies/prizes/awards are for those who have achieved something. Having said that I want to recognize Team Awesome Sauce, Jr, the youngest participants to ever participate in the MOM. Asher, the team's biker, got a flat tire just coming out of the canyon and rode the remaining 5 miles to the finish line with a flat. Even with this handicap the team only finished 8 minutes and 34 seconds (4:09:40) behind Team Awesome Sauce (their parents). It is very conceivable that without the flat Team Awesome, Jr would have beaten Team Awesome Sauce. Although they didn't place, the race would still like to recognize Team Awesome Sauce Jr's grit, determination and perseverance. Sometimes competition isn't against others but the willingness to face and overcome personal challenges. As such, Team Awesome Sauce, Jr will receive (4 $25 Scheels gift cards).
